Welcome to the Freeview Set Top Boxes page, a Freeview set top box is a
small piece of electronic equipment that picks up the Freeview signal and
displays it on your television. Buying a Freeview set top box is a very cheap
and easy way of accessing the Freeview service as the set top boxes are very
cheap at around £25, that is for the really cheap ones and there are
better, more expensive ones but the cheap set top boxes are fine for the
basic watching of digital television.
Freeview set top boxes are easy to use; all you need to do is attach your television
ariel to the back of the set top box and then attach the set top box to the television
using the scart lead. If your television does not have a scart socket there are
some set top boxes that can connect to your television using the ariel socket,
your television would then have to tune into this signal on a seperate channel
and you would need an adaptor if you want to use other equipment such as a video
recorder. If you wish to use a video recorder with your Freeview set top box
then this is no problem, all you have to do is attach the set top box to the
video recorder and then attach the video to the television.
There are also lots of cool features that some Freeview set top boxes have which
include electronic programme guides. An electronic programme guide displays what
is on each channel for the next couple of hours and you can scrool across to
view what is on later, it also displays lots of channels at the same time so
it is easy to plan your television viewing. Some also have a now and next feature
so you can easily find out what is currently on and what is on next on any channel.
Another feture worth looking out for is parental control which allows you to
restrict what your children can watch so you can block any unsuitable material,
these use pin number or password so that only the people who know the pin
or password can access the restricted channels.
There are lots of brands that offer Freeview set top boxes including popular
brands such as Sony, Panasonic and Philips. These brands such as Sony, Philips
and Panasonic generlly offer the Freeview set top boxes with the best features
but they do cost more, the cheap set top boxes are usually from the lesser known
brands but some of them are very cheap indeed.
